The Skin Guide
What is your skin type?

Four skin types, each with its own signs. Learn to recognise yours, then begin with one considered step.
Understanding your skin
Skin type is set largely by how much oil, or sebum, your skin produces and how well it holds moisture. Genetics play the greatest part, which is why your type tends to stay consistent through adult life.
Climate, season, shaving and the products you use can change how your skin behaves from week to week. A simple test: wash with a gentle cleanser, wait an hour without applying anything, then notice where your skin feels tight and where it shines.
01
Oily skin
A shine across the forehead, nose and chin by midday.
Pores look larger, and the skin rarely feels tight.
The ritual
Cleanse morning and evening, and favour light textures over rich creams. Avoid stripping the skin: harsh washing can leave it feeling tight without reducing shine.

02
Dry skin
The skin feels tight after washing, most of all on the cheeks.
Fine flakes or a dull, rough patch by evening.
The ritual
Keep water lukewarm and cleansing gentle. Apply serum while the skin is still slightly damp, and protect it from wind and central heating in the colder months.

03
Combination skin
Shine through the centre of the face, while the cheeks stay normal or dry.
Pores look larger down the middle than at the sides.
The ritual
Treat the zones differently: balance the centre, comfort the cheeks. A light toner suits both.

04
Sensitive skin
Redness or stinging after shaving or a new product.
The skin flushes easily with heat, wind or strong scent.
The ritual
Introduce one new product at a time and try it on a small area first. Shave with the grain on a fresh blade. If redness persists, see a dermatologist.
