The Hair Guide

What is your hair type?

Four hair types, each with its own needs. Recognise yours, and care for it accordingly.

Understanding your hair

Hair type is inherited. The shape of the follicle largely decides whether hair grows straight, wavy, curly or coiled, and the width of each strand decides whether it feels fine or thick.

Care changes how hair behaves, not what it is. Hot water, frequent washing, sun and hard water can all leave hair drier, while the right cleansing rhythm and regular conditioning keep it soft and manageable.

01

Fine hair

Strands feel soft and thin between the fingers.

Hair falls flat by the end of the day.

The ritual

Wash as often as your hair needs, keep conditioner to the lengths and ends, and avoid heavy products at the root.

02

Thick hair

Strands feel coarse and full.

Hair takes a long time to dry and holds its shape.

The ritual

Condition at every wash and give it a few minutes to work. Comb through while the conditioner is in, never through dry hair.

03

Curly and coily hair

Hair grows in waves, curls or tight coils.

It shrinks as it dries and frizzes easily.

The ritual

Wash less often, condition generously and style while damp. A balm smoothed over the lengths helps hold shape and calm frizz.

04

Dry hair

Ends look dull and feel rough to the touch.

Strands snap easily when combed.

The ritual

Lower the water temperature, condition at every wash, and finish with a few drops of treatment through the lengths.
